11/03/2007 - Winnipeg, MB (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Fred Reid's two touchdowns and Troy Westwood's pair of field goals were enough for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to hold off the Montreal Alouettes, 20-17, and regain first place in the East Division.
With Winnipeg (10-7-1) beating Montreal (8-10), the Saskatchewan Roughriders must defeat the Argos on Saturday for the Bombers to finish in first. But if Toronto beats the Riders, then the Bombers would host Montreal in the East semifinal on November 11 with the winner of that game heading to Toronto for the final on November 18.
Kevin Glenn completed 15-of-29 passes for 196 yards with an interception for the Bombers, who had lost four of their last six games, including a 16-8 decision last weekend to Toronto that gave the Argos top spot, one point ahead of Winnipeg, entering the contest. Reid rushed for 139 yards on 17 carries, and Milt Stegall caught a pair of passes for 51 yards.
Marcus Brady completed 13-of-32 passes for 235 yards with a score and an interception for the Alouettes, who lost for the third time in their last four games. Avon Cobourne rushed for 45 yards on 11 carries with a score. Elijah Thurmon caught three balls for 78 yards, and Ben Cahoon had three catches for 53 yards.
After a scoreless third quarter with Montreal trailing 20-14, Damon Duval converted a 15-yard field goal with 6:39 left in the fourth to culminate a five-play, 36-yard drive.
After forcing Winnipeg to punt on its ensuing possession, Montreal had a good opportunity to score on its final drive, as Brady completed passes to Kerry Watkins for nine yards, Cahoon for 25 yards, and Watkins again for 13 yards with a forward-pass-interference penalty adding 10 yards. However, Brady's next two pass attempts fell incomplete and Duval was forced to punt, allowing the Bombers to run out the clock.
Both clubs went to their running game, equaling each other on the scoreboard after one quarter. An 11-yard pass from Glenn to Arjei Franklin and a 30-yard reception by Derick Armstrong followed by a 21-yard Stegall catch led to Reid's 18-yard touchdown run 2:40 into the quarter.
Cobourne's three-yard touchdown run with 28 seconds remaining capped a 12- play, 68-yard drive that tied the score for Montreal, 7-7, heading into the second.
Winnipeg managed to hold off an early Montreal score to take a six-point lead into the locker room. A 43-yard pass from Brady to Thurmon with a 15-yard roughing-the-passer penalty on Steve Baggs set up a 19-yard touchdown reception by Cahoon 2:52 into the second.
Winnipeg's Robert Bean blocked a punt that led to another Reid touchdown run, however, this time from one yard out 6:16 into the second.
Westwood's 30-yard field goal 13:13 into the quarter capped a five-play, 41- yard drive by Winnipeg, and Duval missed on a 51-yard attempt on Montreal's ensuing possession. Westwood later added a 21-yarder with 16 ticks left for a 20-14 Bombers lead at halftime.

LaDainian Tomlinson Favorite to be 2007 NFL MVP
With the first NFL preseason game less than two weeks away, it is time to start thinking about football once again at MySportsbook.com. Reigning NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson is currently the 5-1 co-favorite to win the award again alongside Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning.
This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone after his all out assault on the record books last season. For those suffering from amnesia or were under a rock last football season, all L.T. did last season was set the NFL record for rushing touchdowns (28), total touchdowns (31) and total points scored (186) to go along with his 1815 rushing yards and 508 receiving yards. At 6-1, Tom Brady is next in line which isn’t surprising considering all of the firepower the Pats added over the off-season. With the addition of Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker; it would be quite difficult for Brady’s numbers not to improve from last years 3529 yards and 24 touchdowns. There appears to be some decent value in Drew Bees at 10-1 considering he probably would have won the award last year if it wasn’t for L.T.’s record breaking season.
There is no reason to think the Saints will come back to earth this season and playing in a weak NFC, they should have as good a shot as any to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. At 15-1, Donovan McNabb could also be worth a look. Remember, many felt he was the MVP of the first half of the season before going down with a season ending injury. Reportedly, he is in great shape and well ahead of schedule to return to form. Also, he could have some added motivation to put up big numbers this season with the Eagles using their first pick in the draft on McNabb’s future successor Kevin Kolb.
