11/06/2006 - Foxboro, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Peyton Manning threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns as the Indianapolis Colts are now the sole unbeaten team in the league with a 27-20 victory over the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium.
Manning went 20-of-36 passing with an interception and Marvin Harrison had eight catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns for the Colts (8-0), who became the first team since the 1929-31 Packers to go 8-0 in consecutive seasons.
Reggie Wayne had six catches for 90 yards and Joseph Addai carried the ball 18 times for 43 yards and a touchdown for Indianapolis, which has back-to-back wins against New England for the first time since 1995 when the teams were in the AFC East.
"The thing I like about our team is we're finding alot of different ways to win," said Colts coach Tony Dungy. "I'm proud of our guys. The defense had alot of takeaways and Marvin had a big game."
Chicago was the other unbeaten team heading into Week 9, but were defeated by Miami, 31-13, earlier on Sunday.
Tom Brady was intercepted four times and finished 20-of-35 passing with 201 yards while Corey Dillon carried the ball 13 times for 48 yards with two touchdowns for the Patriots (6-2), who had won six of their last seven games coming into the contest.
"We did some things well but we gotta be more consistent," said Patriots coach Bill Belichick. "We gotta coach better and we gotta play better. Most of the game it was a one-score game, we just couldn't find a way to tie it up."
The Patriots appeared headed to put points up on their first drive, but Brady was picked off by Antoine Bethea in the end zone and Bethea brought the ball out to the Colts 32.
Indianapolis took advantage of the turnover and marched the ball 68 yards in nine plays with Manning finding Harrison in the end zone from five yards out for a 7-0 lead with 4:30 left in the first quarter.
"It was a great win, a great team win," said Manning. "We were able to take advantage of some turnovers and make the most of those situations."
The touchdown was No. 114 in Harrison's career as he became the Colts all-time leader, passing Lenny Moore.
New England responded on its ensuing possession to tie the game. An 11-play, 68-yard drive that spanned the first and second quarters was capped off on a one-yard touchdown run by Dillon less than a minute into the second.
The Colts, though, had an answer as they put the ball into the end zone on their next possession when Addai took a handoff in off the right tackle from two yards out. The key play of the drive was a 33-yard reception by Wayne.
The Patriots again responded and took the ball on an 11-play, 66-yard drive with Dillon going into the end zone off left guard from four yards out to make it a 14-14 game with 4:14 left in the half. On the first play of the drive, Brady connected with Reche Caldwell for a 21-yard play.
Indianapolis, however, took a 17-14 lead into the locker room thanks to a 23- yard field goal by Adam Vinatieri, who was facing his former team for the first time.
Each team had a pair of short possessions to start the third quarter, but, on their third possession, the Colts took a 24-14 advantage.
An eight-play, 74-yard drive was finished when Manning found Harrison in the end zone from four yards out with 6:56 left in the third. The receiver made a beautiful juggling catch and kept both his feet inbounds on the play for the score.
New England countered on its next touch with a 49-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski to make it a 24-17 game and had an opportunity to cut into the deficit further when Indianapolis fumbled the ensuing kickoff, but Gostkowski eventually pushed a 36-yard attempt wide right.
Manning was picked off five plays after getting the ball back, but Brady was burned for his third pick of the game on a tipped ball and eight plays later Vinatieri hit a 31-yard field goal to increase the Colts lead to 27-17 with a little over 10 minutes to play.
New England quickly got the ball down the field, but the drive stalled at the Colts eight-yard line and a 26-yard Gostkowski field goal made it a 27-20 game with 6:01 remaining.
Indianapolis had a chance to seal the victory when Vinatieri lined up for a 48-yard field goal, but he hit it wide right.
Brady, though, was picked off by Cato June and the Colts killed the remainder of the clock.

Kansas City, MO - Kansas City has not officially named Matt Cassel its starting quarterback, but there can be no doubt now.
NFL Betting
After praising his leadership and work ethic through spring workouts, the Chiefs announced Tuesday they had signed the 27-year-old Cassel to a multiyear contract. Terms were not disclosed, but he will almost certainly be one of the highest-paid members of the team.
"We are excited to be able to reach a long-term agreement for Matt Cassel to be a Kansas City Chief for many years to come," owner and board chairman Clark Hunt said in a statement. "His proven leadership on and off the field will be a tremendous asset to the organization."
Patriots made him their franchise player, meaning his salary for this season will be about $15 million.
New head coach Todd Haley, taking over for Herm Edwards after a 2-14 season, refused to name a starter at any position during offseason workouts. But it was obvious to everyone the team belonged to Cassel.
"I go out there each and every day with that focus that I'm the starter," Cassel said during a June minicamp. "Competition brings out the best in everybody."
The signing will come as welcome news to Cassel's new coaches and teammates. Amiable and hardworking, online football betting he appeared to win over everyone at minicamp.
"I think he's got some unique leadership qualities. I think his teammates like him and have respect for him. I think he's doing a pretty good job on the field, too," Haley said last month. "He's doing everything that I'm asking him, that our coaches are asking him to do. I don't have one single complaint how he's carrying himself."
After one workout, wide receiver Devard Darling declared Cassel "a breath of fresh air."
"He has a lot of swagger, a lot of confidence. It's good for us," said Darling. "We trust in him that he's going to go out there and lead us all the way."
nse to accommodate his specific abilities.
Trapped on the bench behind Heisman winners Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC and then unable to unseat Super Bowl MVP Brady at New England, Cassel seemed destined to be a backup all his life. As Brady was helped off the field last September, Cassel seized the opportunity he'd been waiting for since high school.
In his only sustained action since his teens, he hit 349 of 555 passes for 3,949 yards at New England. He had 23 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions as the Patriots, who had gone unbeaten through the regular season the year before, finished 11-5 and out of the playoffs.
Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli, who had been Bill Belichick's assistant in New England, engineered the trade after the Patriots became convinced that Brady would recover fully from his knee operation.
"Since Matt arrived in Kansas City, he has embraced the team and the community," Pioli said. "His work ethic, his ability and competitive presence is what we expect from our players."
