Marlins place Julio, De Aza on DL

04/18/2007 - Miami, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Florida Marlins placed reliever Jorge Julio and starting center fielder Alejandro De Aza on the 15-day disabled list.

Julio is suffering from a right calf strain, while De Aza has a right ankle sprain. Florida recalled pitcher Lee Gardner and outfielder Eric Reed from Triple-A Albuquerque to fill the vacated roster spots.

Julio suffered the injury during Tuesday night's loss at Houston when he was covering first base on an Adam Everett infield single. The right-hander was touched for six runs -- five earned -- on six hits in one inning of work.

Julio was recently demoted from the closer role with the Marlins after a horrid start to the season. He has allowed an astonishing 12 earned runs on 15 hits with 11 walks in just 5 2/3 innings of work this season. He has posted an 0-2 mark with two blown saves in his only chances.

He was acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks prior to the start of the season in exchange for pitcher Yusmeiro Petit.
